Seagulls: An Art Photo (How I Made It Video)
On the Texas coast, near Victoria, the seagulls call out, “mine, mine, mine”, as they hover the water looking for a morsel of food. Swooping down for the catch, they’re sometimes fended off by another bird with its eye on the same scrap. This art photo captures the essence of the seagulls, and their constant search for food.
The retouching on this picture was achieved by only using the smudge tool and some small color adjustments. The water was easy to swirl around into something more smooth and into more of a painting effect that I wanted. A hint I’ll add, if you’d like to try this on your own images, is to keep the brush strokes within the area of one color or shade at a time. Mixing the shades and contours too deeply will later the image totally, and even change the composition.
I printed this on a heavy fine art rag paper with beautiful results. It’s definitely worthy of a frame and wall space. Let me know if you like it!0
